Another type of data point you tangentially referred to - alumni who still blog, but who do so elsewhere. I count myself among one of these, popping off Planet Olin about halfway through my first year after graduation. The occasion was a migration to a different blog server (my own) and consciously choosing not to have my new blog's feed included (my old blog feed is still on Planet Olin).

Why?

Personally, I didn't feel like my blog's content pertained to Olin and Olin students as much as it used to when Olin was my life. I blog frequently - multiple times per week, on average - but I don't write about Olin as much because my life consists of other things these days. I still read PO and love hearing what current students are up to, but don't feel like I should be pushing my off-topic "well and at OLPC today this happened!" and "so I went to visit my aunt..." posts onto others.

What I have considered is creating an Olin category for my blog and having that category's feed included on PO, because I do still occasionally write about things that are Olin-relevant; I do this now with OLPC, with my OLPC category feed going to Planet Laptop. Maybe that's one way I can try to rejoin the conversation.

This has been a rambling braindumped response to your post, so it may not make much sense. ;) Thanks for the food for thought - I'll go set up an Olin category on my blog now.
