Book Recommendations
I’ve decided that the way I do book recommendations is no fun. Well, it *is* fun, but mostly for me. I want it to be fun for you too. Therefore:
Recommend books. Win stuff. Celebrate.
Here’s how it works:
Every month, I’ll ask for book recommendations. Submit as many as you like. If one of your books is selected for that month, you’ll receive a point. 5 points in the school year? You’ll get a free dinner somewhere. Submissions for the month of September must be receieved by August 27th, at 11:59 PM.
The fine print.
No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply. All prizes may not be awarded. Entries must be recieved by the date and time specified. Philonoist.net and its staff are not responsible for late entries for any reason, including, but not limited to, i) a loss of electrical power, ii) a loss of network connectivity, iii) submissions that are delayed in arriving. If entries are receieved after the submitted date and time, they may, at the sole discretion of the contest manager, be held over for the following month’s points. The contest will run from August 15th, 2005 until on or about April 27th, 2006. Points will be awarded on or about the first (1st) day of each month (i.e. September 1st, October 1st, etc.) Up to five (5) points will be awarded per month. Entries will be selected on criteria known only to the judge(s). Entrants may submit as many entries as they like, however, only a maximum of one (1) point will be awarded to an entrant in a month. Points are non-transferable, and, where applicable, have a cash value of less than 1/20th of a cent. In the event that an entrant recieves 5 points or more during the contest period, they will be awarded a “free dinner” at the restaurant of their choice. “Free dinner” will mean one (1) entree, and one (1) non-alcoholic beverage, the combined total cost of which should not exceed $20 USD. Alcoholic beverages, appetizers, desserts, and after-dinner drinks are not included. Acutal Retail Value (ARV: $20). The “free dinner” must be eaten in the company of the contest manager, and must be consumed no later than May 21st, 2006. Winners will be notified on or about the second day of May, 2006.
Winners agree to have their name and/or alias published beside their winning entry on Philonoist.net and agree to adhere by all rules and regulations set forth. The contest manager has sole discretion to adhere, amend, and remove these rules.

I Am Charlotte Simmons by Tom Wolfe- pretty good writing, excellent storyline. Gives you insight into how messed up, even the “good ones”, are in college. Nice growing up book with an excellent twisted outlook on life.

If you are looking for another book to read, I have one that I recommend highly.
The book is titled “The Fall of Lucifer”, written by Wendy Alec.
The book opens with the three Angelic brothers, Lucifer, Michael and Gabriel, in heaven before the fall. Over the course of the book, the essence of the angels is developed. The controversy arises when God created man to be higher than the angels, in that we are created in the image of God. Lucifer was embittered to the point of rebellion.
Various historical events are incorporated, and the plot offers the perspective of an angel into the events. The novel develops the beauty of heaven and the grotesque quality of hell, the depths of evil, and the beauty of grace. It communicates these themes through beautiful imagery and an intriguing plot. The beautiful imagery would make for amazing scenery!
This is a fast read, 300-page novel that is consuming to the imagination and penetrating to the heart. I hope they make this book into a movie. It would be amazing. If you have time, I hope you enjoy it!
