Bump The Lamp

bump the lamp phr.: 1. To spend an extreme amount of time on something few people will notice. Origin: During a scene in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Eddie takes Robger Rabbit into the back room at the bar where Dolores works to cut apart the hand-cuffs. The lamp hanging from the ceiling is bumped and swings around. Lots of extra work was needed to make the shadows match between the actual room shots and the animation for very little viewer benefit. Today, “Bump the Lamp” is a term used by many Disney employees to refer to going that extra mile on an effect just to make it a little more special even though most viewers or guests will never notice it.

I feel like I’m doing this with the Olin Library Website. Few people will notice or appreciate the extra things I’m putting into the site (especially in the controlled-access admin site).

I’m probably killing myself over little tiny details. But this site will be perfect, dammit.
